About

Jamila Pomeroy is a Kenyan-Canadian WGC screenwriter and TWUC internationally-published writer with nearly a decade of experience spanning print, new media, film and animation. She also works as a director, independent producer and actor/host. She’s worked with over 20 globally-recognized outlets, namely, BBC, CBC, Telus, Hypebae & Hypebeast, Network Entertainment, Amazon Prime, Netflix and more. Her work across all mediums is known to be impact-driven, with immersive worlds that unpack contemporary social issues. Specifically, her work often champions historically underrepresented people and narratives, while generating both accessible and intellectually-charged storylines.

Jamila wrote, directed, produced and hosted her first TV series, A Happier Planet With Jamila Pomeroy, which aired nationally on CBC in 2022. Her debut feature film, Union Street, was an official 2023 selection of VIFF and named #1 VIFF movie by Vancouver Magazine; the 2023 Reelworld Film Festival, where she won Outstanding Director for a Feature Film.

Her Sunflower Lemonade pilot script was recently accepted into the WGC Script of the Month program. Earlier this year, she was also accepted into the Warner Brothers X Black Women Film! Writer/Director retreat catalyst program; where she received 1:1 mentorship with 12 X CSA-winning Writer and Showrunner, Marsha Greene, to polish a Rom-Com feature. Jamila recently signed a development deal with CBC for her second feature film, Muzizi, which celebrates African diasporic food and ancestral food stories.

As a model, actor and TV personality, Jamila has worked with brands such as Cadillac, Lululemon, Arc’teryx, Shangri-La Hotels, Sephora, Kit + Ace, Merit, Charlotte Tilbury, Laneige, VRBO, Native Shoes, MEC, Eminence Organics and many more. Her modelling and acting work has landed on major television networks, international campaigns, in print and on billboards around the world.
